Guild Charter
<Snakes in the Grass> is a friendly, family-style guild composed of members who wish to excel in their class, experience endgame content, dominate in PvP combat, assist their fellow guild mates in achieving these goals, and most importantly, HAVE FUN!
General
*Membership in Snakes is a privilege. Please treat it as such.
*All new members will undergo a two-week trial period as a “Recruit.” This is your time to shine, and prove to us that you have what it takes to be a Snake. This is also your time to familiarize yourself with guild conduct and rules, register and begin posting at the forums, and offer your services to your new guild mates. First impressions go a long way with us, so show us your stuff!.
*Being a family-style guild, we prefer to be on a first-name basis with each other.
*Public Notes in the Guild Interface are maintained by the Officers. If you wish to have your Public Note changed, please contact an officer.
Prerequisites
*Snakes is currently focused on endgame progression and content. In keeping with our helpful-but-focused frame of mind, we are not actively recruiting new members below level 60.
*On the same token, to maintain our atmosphere of friendship, camaraderie, and family, we are always open to friends, family, and alternate characters of our current membership.
Alternate Characters
*We welcome the alternate characters in the guild once the two-week trial period has been completed. Inactive Alts will be removed from the guild after 30 days of inactivity. We also offer an Alt Guild, called Alts in the Grass, for more storage of lower level items in its guild bank, as well as a shared channel for both guilds. No formal events or direction is offered to members of ALTitgr, it is purely an extension of Snakes.
Talents/Class Specialization
*General members are not required to have a particular spec. However, if you are interested in raiding, or are on a raiding roster, you may be asked to specialize your character in a way that will be of bigger benefit to the rest of your guild mates.
*We do not discriminate based on race/class with general membership, however raiding teams will be properly balanced and configured to ensure the progress of the guild, and we will fill raid team slots with necessary classes first.
Parting Ways
*If at any time, you decide that life (or WoW, for that matter) has taken its toll on you, please have the courtesy to inform one of your officers, so that your spot on the roster may be properly managed.
*If you decide at any time that Snakes is no longer contributing to your progress or enjoyment of the game, please have the courtesy of advising an officer. This will ensure that if there are ways we can improve they will be noted.
Conduct with Guild Members
*Treat your guild members, and especially your officers, with respect. Endgame content is hinged upon a team’s ability to function as a team, and any dissent or discord among the membership is a sign of weakness and a precursor to failure.
* As a family guild, we encourage members to help each other reach goals and landmarks - this includes, but is not limited to, helping with quests and dungeons, and donating materials for tradeskills. Only by helping each other can we truly reach greatness as a guild.
*When asking for help, please have a solid notion of what you are asking, what you are requesting from your guild mates, and what is going on in the guild at the time of your request. Each member’s time and effort is precious; you would not want us to waste your time, please share the same courtesy with your guild mates. Situational awareness will improve everyone’s gameplay experience. A little bit of effort on your part will go a long way towards the progress and happiness of the guild.
*Vulgarity in Guild Chat is not prohibited, but please, if you find the need to express yourself in such base form, use moderation. We do have younger members, so please be aware of your environment. A general sense of maturity is requested of all members.
*If there arises a problem with another guild member that cannot be handled in private messages, please consult an officer to mediate the issue.
Conduct with Non-Guild Members
*Treat others with the same respect you wish to be treated - this includes in trade/general chat, pick-up-groups, even in the world environments. Every member of Snakes, no matter their rank, is a representative of the guild as a whole. One bad impression is reflected 10 times over.
*This does not mean you are required to tolerate ignorance or lack of skill; however, if you decide someone does not conduct themselves like a Snake, be courteous and kindly remove yourself from their presence.
*If a problem arises with a non-guild member that truly affects your experience or progress, please consult an officer, and appropriate action will be taken.
*If substantial evidence of behavior unbecoming of a Snake is presented to the officers, corrective action will be handled on a case-by-case basis; if deemed necessary, the offending member may be removed from the guild. Petitions may be made directly with the Guild Master after the corrective actions have been carried out.
Guild ranks are there to help identify one’s status as a Snake. Our current ranking system is based around Blizzard’s reputation system. As we are currently trying to build stock in our Guild Bank and prepare ourselves for bigger and better content, we offer Guild Reputation for donations of specific items to the guild bank.
We used to employ a more conventional ranking system with recruits, and such, but have found this to be a nice change of pace, but reserve the right to adapt the ranking system to better suit the needs and the status of the guild.
Evil Twin: An Alt of our main guild member. Inactive Evil Twins will be removed from the guild after 30 days.
Hatchling: The basic “Neutral” rank of the guild.
Garter Snake: “Friendly” ranking, offered to those who have made a few donations to the guild bank.
Moccasin: “Honored” with the guild, and have made significant donations of time, gold, and items.
Rattler: “Revered” with Snakes, and have made substantial donations to further the guild and its progress.
Viper: “Exalted.” This person has given their heart and soul to the guild and will keep this title as long as they are a member of Snakes, regardless of our ranking system.
Deadly Viper: Vipers have proven themselves to be knowledgeable, skilled, dedicated, selfless, and trustworthy leaders of the guild. In the absence of the Guild Master, they are in charge. Vipers are nominated by the Guild Master based on the needs of the guild and the officer staff, and their nominations are approved by the other officers.
Cobra: Trust me, you don’t want this job. Just have fun and play the game.
*The guild Ventrilo server is provided as a privilege and fun place to gather and talk in real time. Participation on Ventrilo during regular game play is not required, but strongly encouraged. It is a great tool for building teamwork and guild relationships.
*Please do not take advantage of the server, and observe the same conduct you would in guild chat.
*If you wish to invite a friend to join the server for a chat, please check with an officer before giving out the information.
*If issues arise on Ventrilo, officers have the same power and privileges as they would in-game.
Website / Forums
*These are provided as a courtesy, and as a service to the guild by your officers. Please take advantage of the website as a portal to everything WoW, and to stay up-to-date on current events.
*Use the forums to discuss upcoming events, tradeskills, PvP, dungeons, even just to have fun in the General Forum.
*Get creative! Create and upload your own signatures and avatars. If you ever have any suggestions, please contact an officer.
Raiding
*Three things are required of all raiding Snakes: Ventrilo (preferably with working microphone), Omen Threat Meter, and Deadly Boss Mods. If you do not have these, please contact an officer for information on where to find them.
*Raiding members must be logged on and prepared for the raid 30 minutes prior to start. Raiding members must be logged on to Ventrilo 15 minutes prior to start. If you are not online within the aforementioned deadlines, you will be considered absent and your slot will be filled with your replacement.
*Coming prepared means the following: you are fully geared and repaired and you have in your inventory (1) flasks/elixirs [class specific], (2) potions [health/mana - class specific], (3) bandages, (4) food [with stat buffs] and water, and (5) weapon buffs [sharpening stones/mana oils - class specific].
*Snakes does not currently employ a DKP system, as our honor system and master looting has proven efficient.
Events
*Guild events are a chance to get to know your guild mates, and to have fun as a guild, shedding the woes of leveling, grinding, ganking, etc.
*Ventrilo participation is highly recommended for such events, as it is a great place to share laughter and fun.
*Officers will advise prior to each event if any items or materials are required. Please follow all other raiding guidelines for guild events, as it is essentially a full-guild raid style event.
While everyone tries to avoid the topic, unfortunately, it happens. Cheating, hacking, botting, RMT (real money trading) with gold/characters in any fashion will not be tolerated. These actions affect everyone around. Spamming, harassment, and ninja-ing loot are also grounds for removal from the guild.
